Description:
Chinese fan palm is a decorative evergreen palm with large, round, fan-shaped leaves that slightly droop at the ends. It grows a slim trunk and shiny green leaves that give a tropical look. It is often grown indoors as a potted plant or outdoors in gardens. When planted outside, it can grow quite tall, but it stays smaller in pots.
Light:
Needs bright, indirect light but can also grow in partial shade. Gentle morning sunlight is good, but strong afternoon sun can damage the leaves.
Watering:
Water regularly. Let the top layer of soil dry a little before watering again. Keep the soil slightly moist, but do not let it stay too wet because it can cause root rot.
Soil:
Grows best in well-draining, loose soil rich in organic matter. Adding sand or perlite helps water drain better.
Temperature:
Prefers warm temperatures between 18–29°C (65–85°F). It can handle short cooler periods but should be protected from frost.
Humidity:
Likes moderate to high humidity. Light misting can help keep the leaves healthy, especially indoors.
Fertilizing:
Use a balanced liquid fertilizer every 4–6 weeks during spring and summer. Reduce or stop fertilizing in winter.
Pruning:
Remove yellow, brown, or damaged leaves from the base to keep the plant looking neat and healthy.
Placement:
Good for indoor pots, patios, balconies, and gardens. It works well as a decorative plant in bright rooms or tropical-style landscapes.
