Botanical Name: Dicoma anomala
Description:
Dicoma is a long-living herb plant from the Asteraceae family. It is also called fever bush or stomach bush. The plant has narrow, spear-shaped leaves that are dark green on top and lighter and sometimes hairy underneath. It produces unique flower heads with stiff pointed bracts and small tube-shaped flowers that can be white, pink, purple, or mauve. The plant grows from an underground tuber and forms low spreading or upright stems. It is native to sub-Saharan Africa and usually grows in grasslands, rocky places, and savanna areas.
Care Instructions:
Light:
It grows best in full sun or light shade. It needs several hours of sunlight each day.
Watering:
Water it moderately and let the soil dry a little before watering again. Too much water can cause root rot.
Soil:
It grows well in well-drained soil such as sandy, rocky, or loamy soil.
Temperature:
It prefers warm temperatures between 18°C and 30°C but can handle cooler weather for a short time.
Humidity:
It can grow well in normal outdoor humidity and is suitable for dry or semi-dry areas.
Fertilizing:
It does not need much fertilizer. A balanced fertilizer during the growing season can help it grow well.
Pruning:
Remove dry or damaged stems and old flowers to keep the plant healthy and encourage new growth.
Placement:
It grows well in sunny gardens, natural landscapes, and outdoor beds with good drainage. It can also be grown in pots if the container drains well.
