Description:
Dracaena draco, also called the Dragon Tree or Dragon’s Blood Tree, is a unique evergreen plant. It has a thick trunk and long, sword-shaped leaves that spread out like an umbrella at the top. When the bark is cut, it releases a dark red resin known as “dragon’s blood.” It grows slowly and can live for many years. People often grow it in pots indoors or in warm outdoor gardens because of its unusual and attractive shape.
Care Instructions:
Light:
It grows best in bright, indirect light. It can handle gentle morning sunlight, but strong afternoon sun can burn the leaves.
Watering:
Water the plant moderately. Let the top 1–2 inches of soil dry before watering again. Too much water can cause root rot.
Soil:
Use well-draining soil. Cactus or succulent potting mix works well. You can also mix regular potting soil with sand or perlite.
Temperature:
It grows well in warm temperatures between 18–27°C (65–80°F). Keep it away from cold weather and frost.
Humidity:
It can grow well in normal indoor humidity. It does not need very high humidity.
Fertilizing:
Use a balanced fertilizer every 4–6 weeks during spring and summer. Use less fertilizer in winter when the plant grows slowly.
Pruning:
Remove dead or damaged leaves to keep the plant healthy and looking neat.
Placement:
It can be placed in indoor pots, patios, balconies, or warm outdoor gardens. It is often used as a decorative plant because of its dramatic shape.
