Elephant Ear Plant

Botanical Name: Colocasia esculenta / Alocasia macrorrhizos
Description:
Elephant Ear is a tropical plant known for its very large, heart-shaped leaves that look like an elephant’s ears. It is mostly grown for its big, beautiful leaves rather than flowers. The plant belongs to the Araceae family. Some types are also grown in tropical areas for edible taro.
Care Instructions:
Light:
Prefers bright but indirect sunlight or partial shade. Morning sun is fine, but strong afternoon sun can damage the leaves.
Watering:
Keep the soil moist all the time. Water the plant regularly, especially in warm weather. Do not let the soil dry out completely.
Soil:
Grows best in rich, well-drained soil with organic matter. Slightly acidic to neutral soil is ideal.
Temperature:
Grows well in warm temperatures between 18–30°C (65–86°F). Protect the plant from cold weather and frost.
Humidity:
Likes high humidity. Indoor plants grow better with occasional misting or in a humid place.
Fertilizing:
Use a balanced liquid fertilizer every 3–4 weeks in spring and summer to help the leaves grow well.
Pruning:
Remove yellow, old, or damaged leaves to keep the plant healthy and neat.
Placement:
Good for garden beds, near ponds, patios, balconies, or large indoor pots where the plant has space to show its large leaves.
