Description:
Dracaena is a common indoor plant with long, narrow, shiny leaves that grow from the top of a woody stem. The leaves can be plain green or have stripes of white, yellow, red, or pink. It grows slowly and is easy to keep indoors. Dracaena plants come from tropical areas of Africa and Asia.
Care Instructions:
Light:
Needs bright light but not direct sunlight. It can also grow in medium or low light. Too much direct sun can burn the leaves.
Watering:
Water the plant when the top 1–2 inches of soil feel dry. Do not give too much water because the roots can rot. In winter, water less.
Soil:
Use well-draining potting soil with organic matter. Slightly acidic soil helps the roots stay healthy.
Temperature:
Grows well in warm temperatures between 18–29°C (65–85°F). Keep it away from cold air and temperatures below 13°C (55°F).
Humidity:
Likes medium humidity (about 40–60%). It can grow in normal indoor air but does better with a little humidity.
Fertilizing:
Give a balanced liquid fertilizer once a month during spring and summer. Stop or reduce feeding in winter.
Pruning:
Remove yellow, dry, or damaged leaves. Pruning helps the plant look neat and can control its height.
Placement:
Good for indoor pots, offices, living rooms, and shaded balconies. Bigger plants can be used as decorative floor plants.
